Chand was established by Sadia Chand who has extensive working experience in southern Africa, with an international training background. She has her Masters in Environmental Science from the University of Cape Town, and her Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Toronto.

As the principle environmental specialist at Chand Environment, Sadia Chand has conducted and co-ordinated a variety of environmental evaluations for national, multi-national and international companies for development projects and initiatives around the African continent.

She has also initiated many public facilitation and communication exercises that have required extensive liaison with stakeholders. Sadia has engaged stakeholder interactions with due cognisance towards the sensitivity of proposals, and towards the local variations in culture and language.



 


Marielle Penwarden is an Environmental consultant at Chand with three years' experience. She has a BSc Honours in Environmental Management (UNISA) and has experience in ISO9001 Quality Management Systems as well as NEC3 Engineering Contract management. Marielle is also currently doing her Master of Science in Environmental Management part-time.

She has worked on and managed a number of environmental authorisation processes such as Basic Assessments, Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessments, Section 24G applications, setback line applications, etc. inclusive of the supporting public participation, licensing and compilation of Environmental Management Programmes (EMPr) required. These authorisation processes have been conducted for small, medium and large-scale infrastructure projects such as a nuclear power station, wind farms, pipelines, roads, residential developments, etc. and have varied in complexity and controversy. She also has experience on Environmental Impact Assessments in Botswana. Furthermore, Marielle has conducted numerous audits for the construction phase of small and medium-scale infrastructure projects. Prior to joining Chand, she worked as a Scientist for a large engineering organisation under the Mega Projects unit, which dealt with large projects of national importance.

 




Mellissa joined Chand in September 2008. She provides both clerical and administrative support to the consultants and is involved with the coordination and implementation of office procedures. Her work involves written communication to authorities and the public, word processing, formatting of environmental reports and compiling presentations for clients and the public. She also assists with the facilitation and organisation of the public participation processes.
 





Coleen Garnett joined the Chand in July 2005 and is responsible for the bookkeeping functions of the company. These include invoicing, payment of creditors, SARS returns, salaries and debt recovery and all other financial aspects. She has many years related experience and works for Chand in the afternoons.
 
 




Charlene Job joined Chand in September 2008 as the general office assistant. She assists with facilitation of the public participation processes updating and maintaining databases and preparing mail outs. Charlene liaises with service providers and efficiently manages the filling and archiving systems. She is also responsible for collecting post, banking and general office assistance.
